Create an OpenHABian MicroSD

OpenHAB (Open Home Automation Bus) is a software solution developed in Java that connects components for building automation from a wide range of vendors in a single platform, independent of manufacturer and protocol. OpenHAB was initiated by Kai Kreuzer in 2010 and has many co-developers.
This guide illustrates how to install the latest OpenHAB version (2.2) on the CM3-Home board.

OpenHAB is the free software that inspired the Acme Systems team to create the CM3-Home board. In the 2017 Acme Systems has become a member of OpenHAB foundation.

The OpenHAB community releases a ready-to-use Linux distribution named openHABian. The versione 1.4 of this distribution, based on Linux Rasbian Stretch, contains OpenHAB version 2.2

Create the microSD

Download the openHABian 1.4 image from this link:

Write the image to your MicroSD card using Etcher:

Update the config.txt and cmdline.txt files as described on the step 2 and 3 of this guide:

Boot from MicroSD card following this article:

Wait approximately 15-45 minutes for openHABian setup.

It is possible to follow step-by-step the setup operations using the debug port. Use a terminal emulator at 115200,N,8,1:

  • Login: openhabian
  • Password: openhabian

After a while it is possible to login from the serial port or via ssh on port 22:

  • Login: openhabian
  • Password: openhabian
